Bandanas can make a great protective mask in a pinch.
A bandanna is usually square in shape and made of cotton. Bandannas come in a multitude of colors and sometimes have elaborate paisley patterns on them. Most bandannas are either 17 inches or 22 inches square. The former is good for creating a child’s mask, while the latter is good for creating an adult’s mask. People wear bandanna masks to keep dirt and debris from entering their mouths, to protect their faces in severe wind or to keep their faces warm when the weather is cold. Does this Spark an idea?
1. Fold the bandanna in half diagonally. Take one corner of the square and fold it down toward the other corner of the square. The bandanna will now be in a triangle shape.
2. Grab each side of the bandanna. Pick up the bandanna by the two triangle points on the sides.
3. Place the flat end of the bandanna over your nose. The bottom point of the bandanna triangle will hang down covering your mouth.
4. Pull the sides of the bandanna and tie them in a square knot behind your hand. A square knot is tied by placing the left end over the right, and then the right end over the left. Pull the knot until the bandanna mask is tightly on your head.
